Renowned landscape and swimming pool designer Scott Cohen has been named the recipient of the prestigious Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) “Volunteer of the Year” award for 2024. This honor recognizes Cohen’s outstanding dedication and impactful contributions to advancing professionalism in the aquatic community through his extensive volunteer work with PHTA.
Cohen, a frequent contributor to Pool and Spa News, also serves as Chairman of the California Pool and Spa Association (CPSA),and has been a driving force in the aquatic industry for more than two decades. In the past two years, his leadership has been instrumental in updating the ANSI standard #5 for Residential Swimming Pools, ensuring safety, quality, and innovation in pool construction. Cohen also holds a directorial position on the PHTA Builders Council, where he has contributed to updating the Builders Manual, further enhancing the standards that guide professionals in the field.
“I am honored to be recognized by the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance and to be able to give back to an industry that I am so passionate about,” said Cohen. “Volunteering with PHTA has allowed me to work alongside other dedicated professionals to raise the bar for safety and quality in the aquatic world.”
Cohen will be formally recognized during the PHTA’s Awards of Excellence Ceremony, which will take place on Monday, November 11th, at the International Pool and Spa Expo in Dallas, Texas.
In addition to receiving the Volunteer of the Year award, Cohen will be leading a highly anticipated seminar at the Expo on Wednesday, November 13th. Titled “Fast Friends,” the session will focus on rapidly building rapport with clients—a crucial skill for professionals looking to enhance their sales techniques. This seminar, first presented in Las Vegas last year, was met with rave reviews, with one well known attendee remarking, “Scott Cohen’s session on ‘How to quickly bond with your prospects’ was undoubtedly one of the best sales training sessions I’ve ever attended in my life. Powerful content, presented in a very entertaining way.”
