This was a challenging new construction home in the Westlake, Thousand Oaks area. The views out the backdoor were of nothing but a huge up-slope of dirt and rock. The clients had just relocated from Brazil to California and they wanted a contemporary pool design with clean lines and a modern color palette. The couple wanted to create multiple outdoor rooms for entertaining, but not have to look at a bunch of ugly retaining walls to accomplish it.
Our solution was to design a reverse infinity edge pool with a rim-flow spa and terraced backyard. By lifting the front edge of the pool to 42 inches it allowed for panoramic views of the waterfall flowing over the vanishing edge to be seen from the large glass folding doors at the back of the home. How a waterfall looks is certainly important, but how a feature sounds can be equally important. This waterfall wall looks terrific for sure, and the sound can be varied by using the smart phone remote controls to adjust the speed of the water. Clients can conveniently change from subtle, relaxing falls, to powerful wild falls reminiscent of IIguazu Falls”, the most famous waterfalls in Brazil, from the palm of their hand.
To enhance the outdoor room vibe, we kept the contemporary fire pit, infinity spa, and dual swim up bars at the same level as the rear of the house. Steps up above take you to the view deck and another fire pit table. The clever use of stone veneer planter walls reduced the need for retaining walls.
Whether checking this out from an aerial view or looking at it from ground level, there’s so much to appreciate about this space. The custom modern swimming pool includes a volleyball net, both stunning and sporty at the same time. Those who are looking to relax can take their pick from the Baja shelf, ledge loungers, infinity edge spa and bubblers. A built-in pool table and swim-up bar makes poolside entertaining a breeze.
The BBQ counter includes a Green Scene signature polished concrete countertop with crushed recycled glass. It’s the perfect setting for the grill master to prepare a feast.
This contemporary project combines natural Fresca stone coping with modern pavers, stacked stone and cast concrete to create the perfect “Brazillian Blowout”!
